Wolverine really gets around.
Wolverine’s resurrection in Marvel Legacy #1 is just the beginning of the character’s latest journey. Today Marvel hinted at some big things to come for the iconic X-Man in 2018, including the revelation of Wolverine’s “startling secret.”
Last week, Marvel teased Wolverine’s role in a new Infinity Stone-focused storyline beginning in February 2018. But before that story begins, fans will be treated to a new Wolverine adventure serialized in the pages of several ongoing Marvel books. Marvel’s press release referred to these story segments “after-credit scenes,” clearly looking to invoke the popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s post-credits teasers.
These teaser stories will address some of the lingering questions surrounding Wolverine’s return, including how he escaped his adamantium shell and why he’s currently so intent on tracking down the Infinity Stones. So far, Marvel has revealed three issues that will feature Wolverine-themed backup tales – Captain America #697 (out January 3), The Mighty Thor #703 (out January 17) and Amazing Spider-Man #794 (out January 24).
“Fans have been speculating about Wolverine’s whereabouts since he first reappeared in MARVEL LEGACY #1—and the Marvel Universe is left just as unaware!” said SVP and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort in Marvel’s press release. “So keep your eyes peeled as Canada’s favorite citizen makes his presence felt in titles all across the Marvel line! It’s all leading to something—but what?”
There’s no word yet on creative teams for these backup stores or whether those initial three will be followed by more. We’ll keep you updated as Marvel reveals more about the future of Wolverine in 2018.
